Highwood Man Accused Of Attacking Cops Who Gave Him A Ride Home
He wound up charged with aggravated battery after two officers were dispatched to a report of a drunk and disorderly man at a restaurant.

HIGHWOOD, IL — Police said a highly belligerent and intoxicated Highwood resident attacked officers Sunday after they gave him a ride home. Instead of receiving complimentary chauffeur service back to his apartment, the drunk and disorderly man was booked into Lake County Jail on a felony charge of aggravated battery to an officer, according to police reports.
Raymond S. Krause, 37, of the 300 block of Green Bay Road, was arrested around 10 p.m. by officers who were initially called to a restaurant in the 200 block of Green Bay Road for a report that an intoxicated man had been pounding on the windows and was threatening customers and a bartender, police said.
Police reported Krause appeared drunk and confrontational when they first encountered him in front of a construction site. He provided his name and asked to speak to an officer who was not on duty at the time. When asked if he had any weapons, Krause made reference to the size of his genitalia, police said.

As he continued to argue and curse at them, officers handcuffed Krause "due to his agitated state and for officer safety," according to police. After confirming there were no active warrants for his arrest, the two officers took Krause back to his home a couple blocks up the road. When they arrived, they let him out of the car, took the handcuffs off and let him know that he was free to go home.
But Krause did not want to go back home, according to the officers' report. He said he wanted to have a cigarette instead, continuing to yell and curse at police while demanding they tell him why he had been arrested by Highland Park police while in Highwood.

Police said they tried to explain that they were, in fact, Highwood police officers and that Krause had never technically been placed under the arrest.
Krause responded by getting louder and going on a rant to the effect of "Why did you f------ a------- arrest me for walking down the street?" calling the officers "F------ Highland Park pieces of s---" and claiming, "I'm going to f---- you up so bad .... I'm calling [redacted] and you guys are f----d," according to police. He walked over to the two officers and took pictures of the license plate of their marked Highwood police squad car, saying "I f---ing got you now."
During Krause's rant, his spouse exited the house and asked what was going on, police reported. As officers began to explain the situation, Krause took off his jacket, threw it to the ground and began swearing at one of the officers, according to police.
Police said he made physical contact by bumping his chest into an officer and gave him a "slight push." The officer responded by using an open hand to push Krause to the "back and to the ground in defense of his person," according to his incident report.
This time, Krause was placed under arrest, police said. After he was put in the back of the car the arresting officer reported noticing he had suffered a small scrape on the back of his thumb.
While at the station, Krause demanded his phone to contact his lawyer after officers had him placed in a cell, according to police. But instead of calling an attorney, he began broadcast a video of himself on a social media platform while continuing to yell and curse at police, according to the report. Police said they took his phone and turned it off after that. Krause later urinated on the floor of the cell instead of using the toilet provided, according to police reports.
Lake County prosecutors approved one count of aggravated battery to a peace officer, a felony, and Krause was taken to jail ahead of a bond hearing. During the trip to jail he continued to berate the officers, describing them as Nazis and suggesting they had recently performed fellatio, according to police.
Krause, who has not responded to messages seeking comment, was released Monday after providing the $1,000 cash portion of his bond. He is due back in court in Waukegan June 26 for a status hearing.
