A homeless man is accused of throwing a cigarette into a trash can in Highland Park, causing a fire. Police arrested John McDermott, 36, listed as homeless at 12:14 a.m. on September 18 in the 800 block of Sheridan Road after a report of a fire there, according to a report. He was charged with reckless conduct. McDermott is scheduled to appear in court in Waukegan next month.
