HPHS Names New Varsity Baseball Coach

Jason Newburger, Highland Park High School's assistant baseball coach and varsity football offensive coordinator, is taking the reins.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Highland Park High School has named Jason Newburger, current Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach and Varsity Football Offensive Coordinator, as its new head baseball coach.

Newburger played Division I baseball at Bradley University. He earned all-conference awards in the Missouri Valley Conference, and was named team captain and MVP during his senior year. Jason joined the Bradley coaching staff in 2008 as a first base coach, working primarily with infielders and catchers.

Newburger began his career in education as a teacher aide at Vernon Hills High School, where he coached football and baseball.

After three years in District 128, he was offered a math teaching position at Barrington High School, where he coached baseball under head coach Pat Wire.

Newburger also served as the head football coach and assistant baseball coach at Burlington Central High School.

In 2016, Jason joined the math faculty at Highland Park High School and serves as the offensive coordinator for the football program with head coach Joe Horeni, and in the Spring of 2017, helped lead the baseball program to the CSL North Championship as part of the varsity coaching staff. The team ended the season with a 12-4 conference record.
