HPHS Team Takes Second at Debate Tournament

Top three quality speakers were all Highland Park students

The Highland Park High School Debate Team took second place at the ICDA IV Tournament on December 13, finishing just six points short of first place.

“We are so proud of our kids for continuing to pull in such great scores and for representing HPHS with excellence,” said team co-sponsor Megan Counts.

In addition to the strong finish as a team, a number of HPHS students also earned individual awards.

The top three Overall Quality Speakers for the entire tournament, from 14 varsity chambers comprised of roughly 280 debaters, were HPHS students Caleb Goldstein (first place), Andy Kaufmann (second place) and Jacob Zionts (third place).

Best Presiding Officers in their respective Chambers were HPHS students Robbie Aronoff, Sarah Dincin, Caleb Goldstein, Andy Kaufmann, Corey Novick and Claire Rafson.

Earning Speaker Awards in their respective Chambers were HPHS students Caleb Goldstein (first place), Ross Hozman (third place), Andy Kaufmann (first place), Claire Rafson (first place) and Jacob Zionts (first place).
