HPHS Wind Symphony Takes Part In Prestigious Showcase

Highland Park High School was one of three schools to send bands to the 32nd annual showcase of bands at Western Illinois University.

From HPHS Bandstand: Congratulations to the Highland Park High School Wind Symphony, one of three schools selected to participate in the prestigious Western Illinois University Showcase of Bands in February 2019.

Led by HPHS Band Director Joshua Chodoroff, the HPHS Wind Symphony is the capstone ensemble of the HPHS band program and is composed of students in grades 9-12 selected by an audition process. The students focus on advanced performance skills, musical interpretation, and individual and ensemble technique. The Wind Symphony performs each year at multiple curricular band concerts, various local festivals, and several community events. In past years, the Wind Symphony has been invited to perform in China, Japan, Italy and Spain.

The WIU Showcase gives talented high school musicians the opportunity to learn from nationally recognized wind band conductors and WIU's applied and conducting faculty. For the Wind Symphony to participate, Chodoroff submitted recordings of the band for review. “This year, our Wind Symphony was one of those groups they chose to spotlight. This is an honor for our students and the community,” said Chodoroff, who in 2015 was named a semi-finalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award, honoring him as one of the top 25 music educators in the country.
