Illegal Ammo, Battery Charges Follow Gas Station Fight: Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

CAR DEALERSHIP FRAUD
Someone used fraudulent documentation to buy a 2015 Lincoln SUV from M&I Imports, 2772 Skokie Valley Road, on Nov. 10. The vehicle was later located by police in Palatine and towed, police were told on Nov. 15.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE
Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius parked in the 900 block of Pleasant Avenue between 3 p.m. Nov. 13 and 11 a.m. Nov. 14.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
The back window of a 2008 Nissan SUV was smashed by a medium-sized rock while parked in a driveway in the 500 block of Alvin Place or or before the morning of Nov. 16.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a locked Nishiki Pueblo 26-inch mountain bike that had been left locked at Northwoods Middle School, 945 North Ave., around 7:45 a.m. on Nov. 18.

HOME BURGLARY
Someone forced open the front door of a home in the 2700 block of Kelly Lane between 8:15 a.m. Nov. 22 and 1:20 p.m. Nov. 23 and ransacked its master bedroom and office. A few pieces of jewelry were reported stolen from inside.

DRIVEWAY THEFT
Someone stole 10 black rental folding chairs and two table cloths from a driveway in the 600 block of Crofton Avenue South after they were left for a rental company to pick up.

CAR BURGLARIES

• Someone stole a leaf blower worth about $588 that had been left in an unlocked equipment trailer of a car parked in the 1700 block of Northland Avenue between 9 and 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 20.
• Someone shattered a passenger-side window of a 2017 Nissan that had been parked in the 1800 block of Sunset Road between 9:37 and 11:23 a.m. on Nov. 22 and stole a purse from inside, which contained about $2,000 in cash, checks and several credit cards.

VANDALISM

• Five bricks in a wall at Central Avenue Synagogue, 874 Central Ave., were written on in black marker at some point prior to 5:45 p.m. Nov. 20.
• Officer on patrol near the overpass at Mulberry Place and St. Johns Avenue on the afternoon of Nov. 26 noticed that someone had written unintelligible messages in yellow.

PACKAGE THEFT

• Someone stole a package from an online retailer delivered between 5:28 and 5:47 p.m. on Nov. 18 to a home in the 400 block of Oakland Drive.
• Someone stole a package that had been delivered by a courier company to a home in the 1800 block of Green Bay Road at some point prior to 6:15 p.m. Nov. 18.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Nestor U. Terrazas, 32, of the 3000 block of Gideon Avenue, Zion, was arrested around 10:45 p.. on Nov. 15 after police were called to a gas station on Half Day Road near Skokie Valley Road for a report of a dispute at the fuel pumps that had led to a battery. Officers were told that a man, later identified as Terrazas, had fled the scene in a white Chevy. Lake Forest police pulled over the card near Route 60 and Ridge Road and found two live rounds of ammunition, cannabis and a large amount of cash in the car. Terrazas was charged with unlawful possession of firearm ammunition, misdemeanor battery, unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was also issued a citation for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

Lizbeth Lara, 32, of the 4400 block of South Honore St., Chicago, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Nov. 28 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop in the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road. Officers also issued her citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to signal when required, disobeying a traffic signal or sign and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.
