HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Police were dispatched to the the BP gas station, 695 Central Ave., shortly before 2 a.m. Nov. 8 to find that one or more burglars had gotten into the business and stolen about 42 cartons of various types of cigarettes.

THEFT
A resident of the 700 block of Central Avenue reported on Nov. 8 that a pair of diamond earrings worth about $5,000 and a cashmere coat worth $1,500 had gone missing from their home during an unknown timeframe.

CAR BURGLARIES
Someone smashed the window of a locked Honda SUV parked at the Heller Nature Center, 2821 Ridge Road, on the afternoon of Nov. 13. Someone also burglarized an unlocked Toyota SUV in the same parking lot that day. A purse containing a checkbook and a key fob was reported stolen from inside the Honda, and a purse with cash, identification and credit cards that were later used fraudulently were reported stolen from inside the Toyota.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE
Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Mitsubishi SUV that was parked in the lot of the Marriot Courtyard, 1505 Lake Cook Road, during the night of Nov. 13 or morning of Nov. 14.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

James D. Koukoulis, 53, of the 1000 block of Cumberland Court, Vernon Hills, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. on Nov. 12 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and with a suspended or revoked license following a traffic stop at Ridge Road and Old Deerfield Road. Officers also issued him citations for failure to signal when required and disobeying a stop sign.

Spencer L. Williams, 50, of the 5200 block of West Pope Street, Chicago, was arrested around 1:15 p.m. on Nov. 12 on an arrest warrant issued by authorities in DuPage County in connection with his failure to appear in court. Officers encountered Williams after getting a call of a suspicious vehicle in the 1300 block of Hilary Lane.

Juan F. Barajas, 26, of the 200 block of Jeffreys Place, Highwood, was arrested around 11 p.m. on Nov. 12 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater, unlawful use of cannabis by a driver and driving without a valid license following an investigation into a report that a car had crashed into the guardrail at the intersection of Western and Highwood avenues. Officers also issued him citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.

Sebastian Robles, 21, of the 500 block of Pleasant Run Drive, Wheeling, was arrested around 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 14 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater. Officers also issued him an improper lane usage citation.
