Kimbrel Resigns Amid Controversy
Embattled incoming superintendent wants to be released from contract, according to email sent over the weekend.

Incoming Township High School District 113 Superintendent Dr. Laurie Kimbrel has asked to be released from her contract exactly four months before she is set to begin.
The Chicago Tribune reports an email sent to District 113 staff over the weekend indicated Kimbrel’s plans to step down.
Kimbrel has been the subject of a pair of recent controversies since her hire.

Reports have surfaced that the husband of Kimbrel, the current superintendent of Tamalpais Union High School District in California, had engaged in internet bullying behavior - accusing a parent in the district of being a member of the Ku Klux Klan, among other seemingly unfounded accusations.
She has also been linked to working for a search firm that was used by District 113 to find a replacement for current Superintendent George Fornero, who is retiring in June.

The school expects to take action on Kimbrel’s request at its March 3 board of education meeting.
“The staff, overall, will be happy we don’t have to start under a cloud,” Marty Esgar, president of the District 113 Education Association, told the Tribune on Sunday.
