Kirk's State of the Union Guest Will Be Highland Park Man
The U.S. Senator's invited guest for Tuesday's address will be Mark Filler, who lost his son to a heroin overdose two years ago today.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL - A Highland Park man will be U.S. Senator Mark Kirk’s invited guest during President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Mark Filler, a father who lost his son to a heroin overdose two years ago today, has been working to prevent heroin deaths since his son’s death and will be in attendance for Obama’s final State of the Union address, according to the Highland Park News.
“The statistics are showing this problem is getting worse,” Filler told the Highland Park News. “It is a huge, huge killer.”
Filler is the founder of the Jordan Filler Foundation, named after his late son.
