Medical Marijuana Dispensary Planned for Highland Park

A Lake Forest couple has plans to open one in Briergate Business District before end of year.

Northshore Alternative Therapy, LLC, a Lake Forest couple’s company, is planning to open a medical marijuana dispensary in Highland Park’s Briergate Business District west of Route 41.

Andy and Veronica Hunt were awarded a license for their company by the state in February, but since all three awarded licenses in Lake County had their sights set on the Mundelein-area, Northshore Alternative Therapy and one other company were told to find locations elsewhere, the Highland Park News reports.

Plans are to lease a portion of a new building, constructed by Kelev House 2 at 1460 Old Skokie Road.

The couple told the news the location is attractive because of its proximity to home, allowing them to actively monitor operations.

The Hunts will appear before the Highland Park Plan Commission before filing a formal application with the city.

A recent Highland Park ordinance indicated all potential dispensaries would need to be awarded a special use permit prior to opening. This dispensary would occupy about 2,300 square feet of space in the 7,700-square-foot building.

If all approvals are obtained, the opening date could be as early as Mid-November.
