Medication, Money Clip, Sunglasses Stolen From Unlocked Cars: Highland Park Crime Reports

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded than an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations by the state. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

A business in the 1700 block of St. Johns Avenue was broken into, police were told on the morning of Sept. 25. A window had been broken out and two bank bags with an unknown denomination of currency were reported missing. No other items were taken or disturbed within the business.
THEFT

Two iPads, a pair of surgical glasses, a Samsung Galaxy 6 cell phone were reported missing from a business located in the 1800 block of St. Johns Avenue on Sept. 25 at 12:19 p.m.
THEFT
A red Trek mountain bike left at the end of a driveway in the 2500 block of Sheridan Road with a wheel lock on the frame was reported stolen sometime during the overnight hours of Sept. 26-27.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE
Sometime during the overnight hours of Sept. 28-29, the drivers side window of a Volkswagen was reportedly broken out at an undisclosed location. The vehicle was reportedly still locked and no items were reported missing.
THEFT
A handicap placard was reported stolen from a vehicle while parked in the 700 block of Park Avenue West on the afternoon of Sept. 28. No damage was reported to the vehicle.
CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE
Sometime during the overnight hours of Sept. 27-28, someone entered an unlocked Porsche while parked in the 900 block of Wildwood Lane, police were told the center console had been rummaged through but nothing was reported as missing.
BURGLARY FROM MOTOR VEHICLE
Sometime during the overnight hours of Sept. 27-28, someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the 1500 block of Forest Avenue and stole a money clip and drivers license, police were told.
BURGLARY FROM MOTOR VEHICLE
Sometime during the overnight hours of Sept. 28-29, someone entered an unlocked Ford SUV parked in the 2100 block of St. Johns Avenue and reportedly stole medication.
BURGLARY FROM MOTOR VEHICLE
Sometime during the overnight hours of Sept. 28-29, someone entered an unlocked Mercedes that had been parked in the 300 block of Central Avenue and reportedly stole a pair of sunglasses.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
A cartoon face was scratched into a mirror in a men's washroom located in the 700 block of St. Johns Avenue, police were told on the afternoon of Sept. 29,
CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE
Sometime during the overnight hours of Sept. 29-30, someone entered an unlocked Ford SUV parked in the 300 block of Park Avenue West and rummaged through the center console but did not steal anything.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
SUSPENDED LICENSE
A 46-year-old Evanston man was arrested Sept. 25 at 10:26 p.m. and charged with driving while license suspended, and issued citations for expired registration and uninsured motor vehicle after being stopped by police near the intersection of Half Day Road and Skokie Valley Road.
DUI
Ryan Heigeland, 25, of the 1100 block of Museum Boulevard in Vernon Hills, was arrested Sept. 26 at 3:02 a.m. and charged with speeding 35+ mph over the limit, driving under the influence after being stopped by police in the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis and open transportation of alcohol.
SUSPENDED LICENSE
A 20-year-old Wilmette man was arrested on Sept. 27 at 8:18 p.m. and charged with driving while license suspended after being stopped by police near the intersection of Second Street and Laurel Avenue. He was also issued citations for making an illegal left turn into a parking space and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
DUI
Jose Gonzalez, 39, of the 1600 block of McGovern Street, was arrested Sept. 27 at 10:08 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence and driving without a valid license after police were called to a verbal dispute and later stopped Gonzalez in the 800 block of Laurel Avenue. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.
SUSPENDED LICENSE
A 19-year-old Bridgeview woman was arrested Sept. 27 at 11:54 p.m. and charged with driving while license suspended after being stopped by police in the 400 block of the Edens Expressway.
WARRANT
Darren Jones, 31, of the 500 block of North Lavergne Avenue in Chicago, was arrested shortly after 3 a.m. on Sept. 30 on a failure to appear warrant issued by Kane County after police located him in the 700 block of St. Johns Avenue on routine patrol.
WARRANT
Olena Dunayskia, 44, of the 1300 block of Fredrickson Place, was arrested Sept. 30 at 9:19 p.m. on a Highland Park warrant for fraud after officers located her in the 1300 block of Fredrickson Place on routine patrol.
DUI
James Frost III, 40, of the 6500 block of South Justine Street, Chicago, was arrested Oct. 2 at 12:12 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence, suspended drivers license and open transportation of alcohol after police responded to a driving complaint and stopped him near Lake Cook Road and the Edens Expressway.
