Mike Lubelfeld Hired As New NSSD112 Superintendent
Promising to "restore excellence," the ex-Elm Place teacher and principal returns in July to the district where he spent 13 years.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The North Shore School District 112 Board of Education Tuesday approved the hiring of Michael Lubelfeld as its new superintendent. Lubelfeld is a former teacher and principal at Elm Place Middle School and currently the superintendent of District 109 in Deerfield, where he lives. His five-year contract begins July 2018 at a salary of $299,000.
“It is beyond an honor to be back here in School District 112 I am so grateful to you, members of the board, for your support, for your thorough vetting, for your extremely thorough interview process," he told the board, after the board unanimously approved his hiring.
"All students are going to have the best education humanly possible" he assured the board. "We are going to rebuild trust, we are going to rebuild community and we are going to restore excellence to North Shore School District 112 so thank you so much for this opportunity. I'm very proud to be back."

For 25 years, Lubelfeld has been in Pre-K-8 education, according to a news release announcing his hire. He spent five years as a classroom teacher, eight as a building level administrator for grades 4-8, 12 years as a central office administrator, four as an assistant superintendent and eight as a superintendent.
Lubelfeld will be returning to the district where he worked between 1997 and 2010. He started as a teacher at Elm Place, where he became an associate principal in 1998 and a principal in 2002. From 2006, he served as assistant superintendent for personnel services.

“I recognize that District 112 is at a unique and vital point in its history and I believe that our community, staff, and leadership can work together to re-establish the excellence our District has long been known for," said Lubelfeld, a Spanish-speaking parent of 4th and 8th graders.
Lubelfeld was named the 2017 Superintendent of the Year in Lake County, and he was named a 2015-2016 NSPRA Superintendent to Watch. He currently leads the Aspiring Superintendents Academy for the Illinois Association of School Administrators, according to the release.
He's the co-author of two books, "The Unlearning Leader: Leading for Tomorrow's Schools Today" and "Student Voice: From Invisible to Invaluable" with Nick Polyak, superintendent of Leyden Community High School District 212. The pair also moderate a monthly chat on Twitter using the #suptchat hashtag.
“The board is proud to have Dr. Lubelfeld lead our district," Board President Eric Ephraim said. "We are confident that he has the skills, experiences, and perspectives to ensure successful results in the classroom as well as optimizing our resources."
"He's worked tirelessly to improve achievement, solidify district finances and improve the climate and culture of the district," Ephraim said at the meeting. "Get to know Mike and you will see a passionate and disciplined leader who cares deeply about the whole child in every child."
