More Than A Dozen Cars Burglarized In A Single Night: Blotter

A Virginia woman accused of attempting to flee police among a half-dozen DUI arrests on the Highland Park PD blotter from Feb. 4 to Feb. 10.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police department and court records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 800 block of Laurel Avenue reported around 5 p.m. on Feb. 7 that someone forced open the front door. Various pieces of jewelry were reported stolen from inside.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Residents reported 15 cars were burglarized around Highland Park after being left unlocked on the of Feb. 4 and early morning hours of Feb. 5. Vehicles were illegally entered in the 100 block of Hazel Avenue, the 1100 block of Golf Avenue, the 1000 block of Court Avenue, the 100 block of Maple Avenue and the 2100 block of Linden Avenue. In most cases, nothing was reported stolen. In others, thieves made off with clothes, change and bicycle parts. In the case of a in the 2200 block of Skokie Valley Road, a window was shattered and a canvas bag reported stolen
  • During the overnight hours of Feb. 6 to Feb. 7, eight more cars were reported burglarized. Vehicles were illegally entered in the 1500 block of Cavell Avenue, the 1600 block of Northland Avenue, the 800 block of Woodleigh Avenue, the 800 block of Broadview Avenue and the 1500 block of Cavell Avenue. All but one had been left unlocked. Nothing was reported missing other than loose change.
  • A resident in the 900 block of Windsor Road reported around 11 a.m. on Feb. 9 that someone had burglarized a vehicle during the previous night. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • Around 7:25 p.m. on on Feb. 10, a motorist parked in the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road reported that someone smashed a back window and stole a purse.

THEFT
A resident in the 500 block of Elm Place reported around 10 a.m. on Feb. 8 that someone had stolen cash and jewelry from a purse.

ARRESTS

Carlos Concepcion Alvarado, 36, of the 2700 block of Hebron Street, Zion, was arrested at 1:42 a.m. on Feb. 4 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or above and driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at the intersection of Route 41 and Old Elm Road. He was also issued citations for failure to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle, improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol.

Thevorius Medley, 35, of the 1200 block of North Grant Street, Danville, was arrested at 5:40 a.m. on Feb. 4 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI – alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or above and driving with a suspended or revoked license after police pulled him over at the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Deerfield Road.

A 20-year-old Highwood man was arrested around 8 a.m. on Feb. 5 in the 500 block of Sheridan Road and charged with driving without a valid license and operating an uninsured vehicle. He was also issued a citation for passing a school bus while loading.

Finola Moore, 27, of the 100 block of Greenhaven Lane, Gurnee, reported to the Highland Park Police Department at 6:50 p.m. on Feb. 8 to be processed on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or above and ticketed for improper lane usage. The charges relate to a Sept. 23, 2018 incident involving a one-car crash in the 2300 block of Skokie Valley Road. Moore was taken to the hospital and given citations there. A judge ordered she be processed and fingerprinted by Highland Park police. She has pleaded not guilty in the case.

Chris Cocum, 21, of the 12000 block of West Sherman Avenue, Waukegan, was arrested at 3:48 a.m. on Feb. 9 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs following a traffic stop in the 2300 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for failing to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle and illegal transportation of alcohol.

Haley Spagnoli, 23, of the 100 block of Ridge Road, Lake Forest, was arrested at 1 a.m. on Feb. 10 and charged with DUI–alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or above and issued a citation for improper lane usage following a traffic stop at the intersection of Route 41 and Deerpath Road.

Caroline Hylton, 23, of the 1600 block of Concord Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 10 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without lights when required, improper lane usage, and fleeing and attempting to elude police following a traffic stop at the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Half Day Road.

Latrina Hoskins, 29, was arrested around 9:40 p.m. on Feb. 9 following a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road. Officers learned a warrant for her arrest had been issued in January for violation of probation following a 2017 guilty plea to a retail theft charge. Police arrested her on the in-state warrant and issued a citation for possession of a small amount of cannabis.
