HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

THEFT OF LOST/UNATTENDED ITEM
A gray Apple Watch last seen at the Starbucks, 2060 Skokie Valley Road, was taken at some point between 10 and 11 a.m. July 18, police were told.

RETAIL THEFT
Someone stole two bottles of Remy Martin cognac from the Binny's, 153 Skokie Valley Road, between 12:07 and 12:14 p.m. on July 18 for a loss of nearly $230.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE
Someone stole a pair of catalytic converters from a delivery truck that was parked in the lot of the Mutual Ace Hardware, 1393 Half Day Road, between 7 p.m. July 20 and 7 a.m. July 21 for a loss of about $2,000.

HOME BURGLARY/FLEEDING AND ELUDING
A white Chrysler Town & Country minivan with three people inside fled at high speeds from a traffic stop at Skokie Valley and Deerfield road after police got word it they had just broken into a home in the 2100 block of Hybernia Drive. Around 7 p.m. on July 21, area residents walking down the block noticed the minivan parked in the driveway, and a man wearing gloves, an orange and white flannel shirt, tan pants and a baseball hat walking out of the house with a walkie-talkie. The man waved to the passersby and ran directly into the minivan, which took off fleeing south. The witnesses noticed a driver wearing a red neck gaiter but could not get a description of the passenger. Police later determined someone had gotten into the house through a read sliding door. Nothing was reported missing from inside the house at the time of the report.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
A white Lexus SUV was stolen from the Lexus dealership at 3040 Skokie Valley Road around 2:30 a.m. on July 23 and recovered by the Chicago Police Department about three and a half hours later. Police determined three people inside a black Dodge Charger had used an unknown object to smash a windowpane in the garage bay door and get inside.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Luis Robles, 46, of the 2400 block of Green Bay Road, Highland Park, was charged with theft after stealing about $11 worth of Budweiser beer from the Walgreens store at 320 Waukegan Ave. in Highwood around 7 p.m. on July 4. On July 10 and July 28, he was charged with trespassing at the same store after he returned despite having been warned that he was banned from the property.

Dionnicios Kefalinos, 36, of the 200 block of Everts Place, Highwood, was arrested on Everts Place around 1:30 a.m. on July 11 and charged with driving under the influence and driving without a license after police received a phone call from a resident.

Erika Pina, 18, of the 300 block of North Avenue, Highwood, and Maria Rosendo, 21, of the 600 block of Homewood Avenue, Highland Park, were arrested around 10 p.m. on July 20 following a traffic stop near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Bloom Street. Pina, the driver, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and ticketed for failing to stop when required. Rosendo was charged with contributing to the criminal delinquency of a minor and unlawful possession of an open container of cannabis by a passenger. She was also issued a citation for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a passenger.

Rina Marchand, 43, of the 1000 block of Wade Street, Highland Park, was arrested around 1 a.m. on July 21 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police were called to the McDonald's, 1988 First St, for a report of a car blocking the drive-thru. Prosecutors filed paperwork seeking to suspend her license due to her refusal to submit to a breath sample and a hearing on a petition to rescind it is set for Aug. 20.

Cesar Frausto Hernandez, 38, of the 3000 block of North Major Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on July 24 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop on the Edens Expressway south of Clavey Road. Police also issued him citations for following too closely, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

A 27-year-old Beach Park man was arrested around 3 a.m. on July 25 and charged with misdemeanor excessive speeding after he was pulled over going more than 35 mph above the limit at Parkside Drive and Skokie Valley Road.
