New Traffic Light Coming to Highland Park High School

District 113 agrees to spend $172,000 on light at St. Johns and Woodpath.

A pedestrian-activated traffic signal near the north entrance of Highland Park High School will be built at an expense of $172,000 to District 113.

The school board agreed to the project at St. Johns Avenue and Woodpath Drive to do their part in a deal with the city of Highland Park, which earlier agreed to the parking lot expansion project at the high school - according to the Highland Park News.

“We are on record as saying we do not think this is a good idea, but we are bound by ordinance to do it,” said Annette Lidawer, District 113 school board president.

The district traffic consultant agreed with a majority of the board that the volume of traffic did not warrant a signal at that location, but the board moved forward now to satisfy a December deadline.

The signal will only be activated by pedestrians.
