Miriam “Mimi” Wolverton Smith, at age 83, passed away peacefully on December 3,2021. She was surrounded by her family in Durango, CO. She was born on August 4, 1938 in Shamokin, PA. Mimi had a wonderful childhood in Lake Bluff, IL with her parents, three sisters and two brothers. She was the oldest of the six children and was always devoted to her family. The Wolverton house was the hub for all the kids in the neighborhood. All were welcomed and treated like family.
Mimi graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1956. Mimi and Jack married on September 12, 1959 and enjoyed 62 happy years together. They raised their three children in the Lake Forest /Lake Bluff, IL community. Mimi was a successful businesswoman. She opened her store, Mimi’s Lingerie and Maternity, in Lake Forest in 1976. Her store was a favorite local destination for over 25 years. She had exquisite taste and her store was filled with an abundance of beautiful merchandise. She greeted every customer with a smile and had a special connection with her customers. She loved listening to their stories as they shopped. She developed lasting relationships with many of them. She treasured her many lifelong friends.
She sold her store in 2001 and moved to Durango, CO to be a doting grandma to her twin grandsons. She enjoyed her life in Durango with her family close by and loved the time she spent volunteering at the Methodist Thrift Store. She loved interacting with the customers and giving back to her community. She enjoyed hosting family holidays and making her famous sloppy joes, lasagna as well as yummy desserts, brownies, chocolate chip cookies and red velvet cake.Read more via Donnellan Family Funeral Services »
