Featured Obituary:

Alvin Lieberman, age 81
July 2, 1939 - August 8, 2020

Beloved husband of Arleen nee Kersten. Loving father of Saul (Laura) Lieberman, Shoshana (Albert) Whortenberry and David (Rebecca) Lieberman. Proud grandfather of Boaz, Caleb, Asa, Aidan, Avery, Asher, Matan, Meira and Akiva. Dear brother of the late Berton Lieberman and the late Sydney (Adrienne) Lieberman.

Al (Alvin, Alvie, Pa, Poppy) was a lifelong artist, photographer and educator. He was active, loving, affectionate, and funny. Al was fascinated by the night sky and could talk about many subjects from art to sports to Mozart. He had a wide range of interests including tennis, pottery, massage, astronomy, chess, fishing, sailing, darts, microscopes, poetry, painting, and music, all of which he shared generously and passionately with his nine grandchildren. He started swimming in Lake Michigan as a kid and was always drawn to the lake and ocean. He took thousands of photos, beginning in the late 60's during his hippie days, and he continued recording life everywhere he went. A collection of his photos are in The Museum of Modern Art and The Smithsonian. His wanderlust nature had him traveling far and wide before settling in Skokie. He had boundless curiosity and answered every calling he had in life, leaving him with a well rounded character that goes unmatched. Al grew up in Albany Park and graduated Roosevelt High School, class of 1957. He played offensive guard for the school football team all four years and was the captain of the varsity team. He was a medic in the Army and continued to serve in the reserves from 1958 to 1965. He was a long time arts and crafts director at Camp Chi, and an art teacher at Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School, retiring in 2006. He died at home surrounded by his family.
