Featured Obituary:

Evelyn Wimberly, fondly known as Ms. Evelyn to the families at Evanston's King Arts School, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Dec. 9 at the age of 60.

Whether on the playground, in the lunchroom or at the front door, greeting people with her warm smile, Ms. Evelyn was part of every child's day - and she made every day better.

She knew every child in her school, and most of their stories. Ms. Evelyn laughed with them, cried with them, held their hands, and helped them see the best in themselves.

Wimberly worked tirelessly to make their world a better place.

Families remember her presence at King Arts greeting kids for breakfast all the way to working into the evening on after-school programs with Youth & Opportunity United. Even on nights and weekends she volunteered her efforts to support others by delivering food, collecting toys or arranging parties for people in need.

Through it all, Wimberly always had a smile on her face and laughter in her heart.

In addition to the many lives that she touched at King Arts, Ms. Evelyn worked to improve the community at large through her church, Springfield Missionary Baptist.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by the King Arts PTA to help Wimberly's family with the cost of funeral arrangements.

Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 19, beginning at 10 a.m. at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 1801 Emerson St., Evanston.
