Featured Obituary:

A loving father, husband, and brother, Mark Dieter Dziersk passed away suddenly at the age of 60 on January 31st, 2020. Married to Elizabeth (Blackburn) for 30 years, he cherished his three daughters; Monroe, Emilee and Elissa. Anyone who knew Mark knew that his family was the center of his world. Mark was traveling for business in Tokyo, Japan on his way home to Winnetka, IL when he passed.

Mark was one of six children, born of German immigrant parents. He was raised in Rochester, Michigan, with the culture of his family’s German homeland: strong family ties and a determined work ethic. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1981 with a degree in Industrial Design. Mark was fluent in German, was a passionate guitarist and loved the sport of tennis.

Mark was a Partner based in the Chicago office of McKinsey & Company following the 2015 acquisition of Lunar Design where he served as the firm’s managing director. Mark holds more than 100 US product design and engineering patents. Highly regarded in his industry, he was renowned as a preeminent design thinking and management consultant. His expertise included innovation strategy, branding, industrial design, packaging, and public speaking on design, sustainability, and creativity.

His career included tenure with two of the nation’s top design and innovation consultancies: as Senior Vice President of Industrial Design at BrandImage-Laga/DesGrippes and Executive Vice President of Design at Herbst LaZar Bell, Inc. (HLB). Dziersk was a prominent leader and decades-long supporter of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), serving as President from 1999-2000.

For the past 18 years, Dziersk served as an adjunct professor with Northwestern University’s Master of Product Development Program. Previously, he lectured at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI and the New England School of Art & Design in Boston, MA. In this capacity, Dziersk was able to connect with and mentor upcoming designers which was of great importance to him personally.
