Featured obituary:

Jean Catherine Krefting (nee Lewis), age 97, passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2019. She was born October 27, 1921 in Atlanta, Georgia, the only child of Prentice and Josephine. At the age of 7, Jean and her parents moved to Madison, Wisconsin where Jean eventually attended the University of Wisconsin. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Chicago to work for the Mutual Broadcasting Company. While working in Chicago, she met the love of her life, Harold Krefting. Soon after they were married, they moved to Deerfield, Illinois, where they lived for over 60 years.

Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, “Hal”, and her two sons Michael and David. Surviving Jean are her children - James (Sharon), Kenneth (Kim), Robert (Janet) and Julie (Ron); her grandchildren – Nikki, Kyle, Kristen, Katherine, Danielle, Tommy and Kevin; and three great-grandsons – Gavin, Myles, and George.

Jean was a very valued and beloved employee of Caruso Junior High School. Finally retiring after over 25 years of service and well into her 70’s, she focused her energy on her garden and Holy Cross Church, where she was a devout parishioner. She enjoyed participating in the choir and volunteering in many different capacities within the parish.

Jean, affectionately known as “Mama” by many, always had an extra bed and a warm meal for anyone that needed it. The front door was never locked and was always open! As all who loved her knew Jean always had to have the last word and that was“I Love You More”!!

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Cincinnati, 3229 Burnet Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio.
