Featured Obituary:
Yukinao (Yuki) Mizuta passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 after a brief battle with an aggressive form of lung cancer. He was 80 years old.
Yuki was born on June 23, 1941 in Tokyo, Japan to Naomasa and Fumi Mizuta, as the youngest of 7 brothers and sisters. He attended Gakushuuin for high school and university where he studied economics. He also graduated from Willamette University in Oregon with an economics degree. Following college, he joined Mitsubishi Bank. After several expatriate assignments to the US, he decided to set roots in Winnetka, Illinois and raise his family.
He was a team player that contributed well both professionally and personally to his communities, but also a pioneer for his time, following passions unprecedented like graduating from college in Japan as well as America and leaving lifetime employment at Mitsubishi to provide an American education for his children because he observed that it was a good fit for their personalities as children and opportunities for them as adults.
He was extremely compassionate and approachable. He used his English fluency to help the Japanese community around him, whether in Illinois or Michigan, with any linguistic needs. He was the go-to for every and any Japanese person around him for the unexpected emergencies all hours of the day. The hours he has spent in the ER with people could not be counted. His door was open for anyone of all ages, and especially Japanese people who regarded his home as their home away from home.
He loved to eat and laugh and his table was a constant gathering place of sharing meals with friends both planned and unplanned. Through professional years and retirement, his house was filled with neighborhood children, Japanese students, Japanese expats and wives, and their local church friends. He also enjoyed gardening and golfing.Read more via N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home »
