Featured Obituary:

Joyce Frehling, 91, of Deerfield, IL, passed away November 30th. Loving mother to Terri Netzel, Lisa Frehling and Joe Frehling (Jacqui); cherished grandmother of Bryan (Katarina), Kevin (Barbara) and Scott Netzel and Kaitlin and Kelly Frehling; adoring great-grandmother of Aspen and Connor, Jase, and Miles; dear sister of the late Janice Ebert and the late Jill Norden; and fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was born in Chicago on April 26, 1930 to Josephine and Richard Glaser. She attended both Mills college in California and Toby Colbern in New York, studying merchandising . She worked in this field for many companies including Bonwit Tellers and Shaxted's. After moving to Miami, in 1969, she continued working in merchandising while studying for her real estate license. She practiced real estate for many years before returning to live in the north suburbs of Chicago in 1992.

Upon returning to Chicago, she resumed working in the retail business and worked at Neiman Marcus, Shephard's and finally Marshall Field's which became Macy's. She retired from Macy's in 2015 at the age of 85. She loved her career, the customers she met and the friends she made working at Fields/Macy's. She had a keen eye for style and décor and left a lasting impact on every customer she met.

Her first passion was her family whom she loved devotedly. She was interested in every aspect of their lives and kept up with what they were all doing, from her grandchildren's new relationships and career changes. She was thrilled to be a great grandmother and loved seeing her great grandchildren whenever she could.

She loved to travel and did travel the world when she was able to. She went to China in 2012 and was thrilled to see the TerraCotta Soldiers in Xian. She enjoyed river cruises, and land tours. Her favorite place to visit was Italy. Her only regret was that she wasn't able to visit Africa.

Joyce was an avid game player. She belonged to several clubs and groups in the area including the Patty Turner Center and the Townley Club. Weekly, she played bridge, canasta, and MahJongg.

She truly touched so many people. She was thrilled to have so many friends who ranged from much younger ones to friends her own age.

She was incredibly active and amazed everyone who knew her. No one believed she was 91.

She adored theater, musicals and plays, and going to Ravinia in the summer to hear classical concerts. She loved going to the movie theater to watch the live Opera performances as well.

She went out to dinner several times a week. One of her favorite restaurants was Blue Grass in Highland Park.

Her favorite Sunday pastime was to first watch Meet the Press and then the golf channel. She knew every golf player by name and had very definite opinions about each one. She was a Chicago sports fan, loving the Bears and Blackhawks especially, but would occasionally root for Joe's teams, the Lightning and Buccaneers.
