Featured obituary:
Elaine Mary Saffold died of Stage IV Breast Cancer on October 8, 2018 at Glenbrook Hospital. She was born December 23, 1951 in Evanston, IL, and was the daughter of Willard and Lois Sternquist.

Elaine attended Evanston High School and Kendall College. She worked at Washington National and Baxter International until she retired to raise her daughter, Kathryn E. Saffold. Elaine was very active in her mother, daughter, husband, nieces, and nephews’ lives. Up until the day Elaine passed, she was always more concerned for her loved ones than herself. She gave her life to being the best daughter, wife, mother, and friend anyone could ask for. If she wasn’t found at the bowling alley with her mother or being her daughter’s #1 cheerleader, she could be found in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes or making her classics. She also spent a lot of time loving her three rescue dogs. She always had a loud voice when it came to dog rescue programs. It was not uncommon to see Elaine, her mother and daughter traveling to places such as Door County and as far away as Vienna, Austria. Elaine caught the travel bug and was always game for an adventure.
For the past 14 years she was an associate at the Gap. Not only did she make many friends while at work, but also enjoyed helping her customers become happy through various forms of retail therapy. Her desire to making others feel happy extended to her last moments on this Earth. She befriended numerous nurses and doctors during her many hospital stays between May 23 – Oct. 8 by constantly validating the work others performed and making people laugh during the tough moments.
Elaine Saffold had the strongest desire to live to see others happy. If love could have cured her, she would be here this very day.
Elaine was predeceased by her father Willard J. Sternquist, and survived by her mother, Lois E. Sternquist, daughter, Kathryn E. Saffold, husband, Richard A. Saffold, brother, Thomas W. (Patti) Sternquist, and her nieces and nephews. Services were held.
