Featured obituary:

James M. Anderson, 67, of Deerfield, passed away on September 2, 2018. Jim was born in Evanston and raised in Deerfield spending most of his life on the same street. He attended grade school through high school in Deerfield and upon graduation was awarded a scholarship at Northwestern where he played football.

Highlights of his football career include selection to the 1970, 1971 and 1972 All-Big Ten Conference football teams. In 1973 he was picked by the Green Bay Packers in the 14th round of the NFL Draft.A family man and hands-on father, he coached multiple sports teams for each of his four children leading the 1998 7th grade girls Holy Cross Chargers basketball team to a 30-1 season.

He was also very involved with the Boosters at Holy Cross raising money for the school and serving as president of the group for a number of years. Another highlight of his involvement at the parish was his performance with the first all-male dance group to perform at the parish’s “Talk of the Town” fundraiser.

He spent his entire career in the paper business, managing the logistics of buying and selling paper. He retired in 2016.

In the last couple of years health issues made it difficult for Jim to get around but he fought to the end. The Anderson family would like to thank all the healthcare professionals who cared for Jim. From the nurses and doctors at Highland Park Hospital to the caregivers at Whitehall we couldn’t have asked for a more responsive and dedicated team to help us through the process.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years Marijo; and his four loving children: Kate of Chicago, Melissa of West Palm Beach, Florida, Nick of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Lucas of Deerfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the PDK (Polycystic Kidney Disease) Foundation.
