North Shore Obituary: Jack McArdle, Sr., 86

Mr. McArdle served as chairman of the Better Business Bureau for Chicago and Northern Illinois.

Jack McArdle, Sr. of Riverwoods, Illinois passed away on December 28, 2014 at the age of 86. Born in Evanston, Illinois he grew up in Highland Park, Arlington Heights, and Harvard, Illinois. He graduated from Northwestern University’s Business School with a Degree in Business Management – Marketing, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He married his wife of 57 years, Gloria Tiritilli, after serving on Destroyers in the Korean War. They lived first in Highland Park, later Northfield, and then settled in Riverwoods, Illinois. Mr. McArdle’s business career included management positions at Curtiss Candy Co. (Baby Ruth and Butterfinger candy bars), and Foote Cone & Belding Advertising Agency (assignments on Kraft Foods, S. C. Johnson, First National Bank of Chicago, and Hiram Walker). He retired after a 17 year career as Vice President of Corporate Communications from the George S. May International Company, a management consulting firm. Among his civic service contributions were executive roles on the Board of Governors of the Illinois Athletic Club, Chairman of the Better Business Bureau for Chicago and Northern Illinois, plus two terms as Chairman of the Plan Commission in Riverwoods. Horses were Jack’s life-long passion; he owned horses for over 65 years and kept them in their Riverwoods back yard stable for over 40 years. Jack and Gloria enjoyed participating as members in many activities of the Mill Creek Fox Hunt for over 20 years. Jack was most proud of and devoted to his family. He is survived by his son Jack (Wife Andrea), their children Emily and Anne, and his daughter Mary McArdle Lueders (Husband Dan) and their children Blake and Grace.
