Nutter Shooting Suspect Threw Chair at Jail Guard: Charges

Authorities claim Benjamin Schenk disobeyed a guard's order and approached him with a clenched fist.

One of the three men charged in connection with the 2013 murder of Highland Park resident Colin Nutter is accused of punching and throwing a chair at a corrections officer at the Lake County Jail.

Charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery of a police officer have been added for Highwood man Benjamin Schenk, now 22, after an alleged incident in which he approached the guard with a clenched fist and punched and threw a chair and two other objects at him after he was pepper sprayed by the guard, according to the Lake County News-Sun. The officer suffered a minor injury.

Philip Vatamaniuc and Michael Coffee - both of Highland Park - are also charged in the fatal shooting of Nutter, whose body was found near an Edens Expressway ramp.
