Marguerite Marie Gunning Phelps, born in Baltimore, MD on May 31st 1926, resident of Lake Forest, previously of Northbrook, Il., passed away peacefully on December 14, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of Samuel Arthur Phelps Jr. (deceased) and mother of Samuel (Catherine) Phelps, III, Marie Cecile (Tom) Friedman, Thomas (Kimberly) Phelps, Evelyn Phelps (David Heckler), Anna Rosalie (John) Lambert and Martin Phelps; proud grandmother of Sean Owens, Clare, Samuel IV, Thomas and James Phelps, Matthew, Kathleen and Robert Vickerman, Emily, Rachel, and Karla Phelps, Daniel, Andrew and Kevin Hicks, John III and Paul Lambert, Brian, Joseph, Timothy and Margaret Phelps. Great grandmother of Chloe Vickerman. Mrs. Phelps was a graduate of the U.S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corp. R.N. She pioneered drug and alcohol treatment programs at Highland Park Hospital and the Institute for Recovery receiving recognition from major recovery centers including Hazelden and The Betty Ford Clinic.
