Obituary: William R. Harris, 75
Services will be held Sunday in Buffalo Grove for the active Jewish War Veterans North Shore Post 29 member.

William R. Harris, of Highland Park, a retired captain and 29-year U.S. Navy veteran, passed away Friday at the age of 75. He was a graduate of Annapolis and MIT, a veteran of the Vietnam War, a submarine engineering officer and the retired vice president of MFRI Perma-Pipe in Niles.
Captain Harris was active in the North Shore post of the Jewish War Veterans. His work helping other veterans prepare and film oral histories of their service was recognized with a special recommendation by the mayor of Highland Park.
Bill was the beloved husband of Nan Lorraine Harris née Gibbs, the loving father of Gregory Harris, Dr. David (Cheryl) Harris and Brenna Switzer, the dear grandfather of Elliot, Ari, Benjamin and Eilah, the cherished brother of Dr. Roger (Linda) Harris, Rachel (Bob) McCoy and Hope Harris.

A service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Road in Buffalo Grove. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.
