Opposition Organizes Against Referendum

Parents spoke out about proposed referendum at last school board meeting.

The proposed $150 million referendum that could be on the ballot for voters in North Shore District 112 this April has generated an organized political committee of those opposing the measure.

Citizens Against the District 112 Referendum is chaired by Highland Park resident Loren Schechter, the Highland Park News reports.

If the referendum is approved to go on the ballot by school board members this month and is passed by voters, it will provide the district the “borrowing authority to construct two new middle schools, serving all fifth through eighth grades in the district” on the combined sites of Red Oak and Sherwood elementary schools. Five existing buildings would also be renovated to serve students in kindergarten through fourth grade.
