Park District of Highland Park Football Teams Score Big in Playoffs

Highland Park Giants lightweight team ended with perfect season.

The Park District of Highland Park Giants lightweight football team ended with a perfect season this past weekend after beating Wilmette 7-6 in the Championship game at Glenbrook North High School. This is the first Giants lightweight football championship win in 15 years.

The Park District sent three travel football teams to compete in the Central Suburban Youth Football League Playoffs. All three teams placed in their respective categories and finished with winning seasons.

The Giants middleweight football team completed a 5-2 season with a win against Winnetka, scoring 33 to 16, at the Skokie Playfields. The team placed fifth in their division overall. This was the best record year the team has had in five years.

The District’s heavyweight football team made it to the Championship game against Evanston with a 6-0 record. While they lost the game 26 to 8, this is the second time in 3 years that the Giants heavyweight team made it to the championship game. The team won the championship in 2012.

“Travel teams with multiple levels allow kids to learn the game in a competitive but friendly environment,” said Brian Dumas, Athletic Supervisor for the Park District of Highland Park, “Our staff did a great job this year coaching our players and giving them some incredible and memorable experiences.
