Park Study to Determine Breakwaters' Impact on Lakefront Properties

Residents south of Rosewood Beach have expressed concerns.

The Park District of Highland Park will spend about $132,000 on a four-year study that seeks to determine whether the new breakwaters that are part of the Rosewood Beach renovation project will have an adverse impact on lakefront properties to the south, the Highland Park News reports.

The study, which has already been contracted, will be performed by SmithGroupJJR. A fifth year of the project that will give the district an option to find more about beach morphology for an additional $32,000.

The News reports several lakefront homeowners south of Rosewood Beach have been worried that the new breakwaters may alter wave action and “deplete the sand that serves to protect the bluff and their properties from erosion.”
