Train Strikes Pedestrian In Highland Park: Coroner
Metra UP-N service was halted in both directions after a conductor reported a body struck by an earlier train, authorities said.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Trains have been halted on both directions on the Union Pacific North Line after a train struck a pedestrian Friday. A southbound train reported a body on the tracks Shortly after 5 p.m and UP-N trains were stopped in both directions near the Highland Park stop, according to a Metra spokesperson and the Lake County coroner.
Trains remained stopped in the area until around 9:30 p.m., according to Metra. Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper confirmed a person had been fatally struck by an earlier train. The identity of the deceased was not immediately known.
Extensive delays were reported on the entire line, and the rail system recommended travelers seek alternate means of transportation.

Delays have continued across Metra during Friday's commute, as the rail system asked travelers to allow extra time handle reduced trains on several different lines. Service will be suspended Saturday on the Metra Electric Line for repairs to damage from an earlier freight train derailment.
