'Poorly Thought Out' Referendum Shouldn't Even Be on Ballot: Letter
Families who recently purchased property in Highland Park are getting the "bait and switch."

The following letter was written and submitted by Mary Curran.
As a 29 year resident of Highland Park, I am deeply concerned about the referendum put forth by School District 112. The massive financial miscalculation by the Districts CFO, Mr. Dada, only adds to the already heinous tax increase threatening our residents as it cuts in half the longevity of the bad band aid they are attempting to put on a badly built dike.
To the young families who have purchased homes in Highland Park so their children could walk to school, this is a giant Bait and Switch. To the long time residents, this largest property tax increase ever threatens to steel away the comfort we would realize by staying in our homes through retirement.

After the District 112 board meeting on Tuesday, February 16th, it is more clear than ever that the Districts plan is still in flux, poorly thought out, and most importantly confusing to many residents due to misinformation disclosed by the District and its simplified wording on the ballot. The fact is, this referendum should not even be on the March ballot!
