Shooting in HP Brought 'Element of Fear' Into Community: Chief
Meeting called to discuss recent shooting and other crimes reported in city.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL - A public meeting has been called to address public safety initiatives that could protect residents of the city from both violent and non-violent crimes.
Highland Park Police Chief Paul Shafer wrote in a letter to community members that the shooting that wounded a Highland Park High School student on Nov. 10 at Waukegan Avenue and Orchard Lane "brought an element of fear into our community."

"While it is important to note that this was an isolated incident and the suspect is in custody, there is still an element of concern among residents and will be addressed," the chief wrote, noting that the shooting incident will be discussed at the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Highland Park High School beginning at 7 p.m.
The meeting, which will encourage questions from residents, "will address current and future public safety initiatives to protect our community against violent and non-violent crimes."
