TASTE ON CHESTNUT CELEBRATES CINCO DE MAYO

"Taste of Mexico" Menu Available from May 5th- May 9th in honor of historic day

Taste on Chestnut, 507 Chestnut Street, Winnetka, IL, will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a weeklong “Taste of Mexico” menu May 5th–9th. Executive Chef Sergio Correa will bring his Mexican heritage to the table and share flavors of his culture’s cuisine.

The special Cinco de Mayo menu will feature appetizers, soups/salads and specialty entrees with classic Mexican flavors, including cilantro, lime, jalapeno and chipotle. Chef/Owner Steve Leviton says, “Every culture has its own favorite spices, flavors, and ingredients. As an ‘up-tempo’ American restaurant, it’s fun to be able to experiment!” Leviton’s favorite dish on the Taste of Mexico menu is the crab filled sea bass with squash blossoms, chilaca, tomato, and cilantro rice. Guests may sip on Mexican inspired cocktails including “La Paloma,” a Mexican margarita made with Patron, lime, grapefruit soda and sea salt, and also enjoy an array of traditional Mexican desserts including hand made churros served with stone ground hot cocoa, Piloncillo poached pear with cinnamon cream, and Buñuelos.

Where did this inspiration come from? The ingredients in the menu are drawn from the dishes Chef Correa grew up with. “The pork dish is my mom’s recipe, and to this day it’s my favorite, and I’ve continued to make it for my own children,” says Correa. “I was born in Michoacán, Mexico and raised in Chicago, so to be able to bring food from my birthplace to my longtime home is really special.”

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations. Cinco de Mayo traditions include parades, mariachi music performances and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States.
