Thieves Get Into 5 Cars, Steal 1: Highland Park Crime Reports

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded than an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations by the state. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

THEFT
A wallet was taken after being accidentally left behind in a shopping cart at a business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road around 3 p.m. on Feb. 12.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a white Audi from a driveway in the 2700 block of Arlington Avenue during the night of Feb. 12 or early morning of Feb. 13. It was not known if the vehicle had been left unlocked with its keys inside.

OVERNIGHT CAR BURGLARIES AND ATTEMPTS REPORTED FEB. 13

  • Someone opened up an unlocked Lexus and took a key while it was parked in the 3000 block of Krenn Avenue sometime in the overnight hours.
  • Someone opened up an unlocked vehicle parked in the 900 block of Old Trail Road and stole a garage door opener sometime during the overnight hours.
  • Someone got into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 1000 block of North Avenue during the overnight hours. The vehicle had been rummaged through but nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone entered an unlocked vehicle in the 3100 block of University Avenue during overnight hours and rummaged through its contents but nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the 100 block of Lakeside Place during the same overnight hours but nothing was reported stolen.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Someone stole a red Gucci bag from a business in the 1700 block of Green Bay Road, police were told at 3:12 p.m. on Feb. 13.
  • Someone stole a Dyson vacuum cleaner from a business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road, police were told shortly before 2 p.m. on Feb. 17.

PACKAGE THEFT
A pair of packages that had been delivered to a business the 1800 block of Green Bay Road were reported missing after having been left in an unlocked area, police were told on the morning of Feb. 18.


ARRESTS

Kenneth Sommer, 43, of the 1200 block of Briarcliff Lane in Highland Park, was arrested and charged with theft of services after police were called to an argument about an unpaid taxi fare.

A 41-year-old Highland Park man was arrested at 9:29 p.m. on Feb. 16 and charged with driving while license revoked after being stopped by police near Park Avenue West and McCraren Road.

A 23-year-old Zion man was arrested at 4:08 a.m. on Feb. 17 and charged with speeding and driving while license suspended after being stopped by police near Half Day Road and Skokie Valley Road.
