Trio Of Downtown Businesses Burglarized: Highland Park Blotter

Driver off road charged with driving on drugs; broken window leads to criminal damage charge: Highland Park PD blotter, Jan. 7 to Jan. 13

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and court records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES

  • Someone smashed the glass on the back door of a business in the 400 block of Central Avenue during the overnight hours of Jan. 11 to Jan. 12. Nothing was reported stolen from inside.
  • About $3,000 was reported stolen from a business in the 400 block of Central Avenue after someone smashed a rear glass door during the overnight hours of Jan. 11 to Jan. 12.
  • Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, officers discovered evidence of an attempted burglary at a business in the 400 block of Central Avenue after being dispatched by an activated burglar alarm. The burglar or burglars did not appear to have gotten inside before police arrived. No suspects have been identified in any of three break-ins reported Saturday.

ARRESTS

Ronald Heller, 70, of the 1900 block of York Lane, Highland Park, was arrested around 10:15 p.m. on Jan. 7 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after police were dispatched to the 1900 block of York Lane for a report of a vehicle that had gone off of the road.

Stephen Gordon, 56, of the 2200 block of Sheridan Road, Highland Park, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. on Jan. 12 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at the intersection of Central Avenue and Second Street. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and improper signaling.

Raymond Alvarado, 35, of the 2300 block of North Menard Street, Chicago, was arrested around 4 a.m. on Jan. 12 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Central Avenue. He was also issued citations for improper signaling, improper backing and stopping, standing or parking prohibited in specific places.

Brittany Price, 33, of the 1600 block of First Street, Highland Park, was arrested around 10:18 p.m. on Jan. 12 and charged with criminal damage to property after officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Hazel Avenue for a report of a broken window at a home.
