Vandals Target Political Yard Signs With Spray Paint: Blotter
Perfume thieves pilfer over $3,000 worth of fragrance; driver with warrant, no valid license faulted for crash: Highland Park Police Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
CAR BURGLARIES
Around 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 21, a resident in the 2100 block of Green Bay Road reported seeing an unidentified man go inside their parked Honda SUV. The trespasser ran away when confronted by the car's owner, nothing was stolen and officers were unable to find him upon their arrival.
BROKEN WINDOW
Someone shattered the window on a shelter on the northwest side of the train station in the 1700 block of Central Avenue. The officers who discovered the damage on the afternoon of Sept. 21 noticed there were several rocks around the broken window that looks to have been taken from near the train tracks.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a 2004 black GMC Sierra with a red ploy attached to the front from the rear lot of a business in the the 1300 block of Half Day Road at some point between Sept. 17 and Sept. 24, police were told. The truck was locked and there were no reports of any cars being towed from the property.

- Someone stole an sign opposing abortion from the front yard of a home in the 500 block of Michigan Avenue at some point between 5 p.m. Sept. 20 and 1 p.m. Sept. 21. Thieves have also stolen at least eight signs in support of the president from the same yard in recent months, police were told.
- Someone painted the word "Trump" on top of a political sign endorsing the president's rival in the upcoming election at some pointe between 7 p.m. Sept. 24 and 7 a.m. Sept. 25 in the 1800 block of Berkeley Road.
- On the morning of Sept. 25, officers noticed someone had defaced another political sign on the public parkway at the corner of Berkley Avenue and Sunnyside Road by using black spray paint to spell out the president's name.
SHOPLIFTING
- Two female thieves stole between $3,000 and $4,000 worth of perfume from the Ulta Beauty store at 135 Skokie Valley Road around 2 p.m. on Sept. 23. Police were told the pair filled up baskets with merchandise and left in a silver or gray Nissan Rogue that was parked in the back lot.
- A male thief stole more than $250 worth of merchandise from the Target store at 2099 Skokie Valley Road at some point on Sept. 24, police were told. The man hid electronics under a sweatshirt in his shopping cart and then escaped after getting into the passenger side of a white sedan, described as a possible Chevrolet Impala.
ARRESTS
Denise N. Runles, 32, of the 500 block of Engle Street, Dolton, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 22 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road. She was also issued citations for speeding, overly tinted windows, unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Maycon Rodriguez, of the 200 block of Highwood Avenue, Highwood, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 13 by following an investigation into a one-car crash at Prairie Avenue and High Street. Highwood police reported Rodriguez tried to flee the scene and appeared drunk and combative. Officer said the car smelled of alcohol and hand empty beer cans inside, and Rodriguez refused to provide a breath sample, at one point calling 911 to complain about the arresting officers. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and fleeing the scene of a property damage accident. Police also issued him citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and unlawful possession of fireworks.
Joaquin Marcos-Cornelio, 45, of the 4800 block of North Central Park Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with a suspended or revoked driver's license following a traffic stop on the Edens Expressway at Lake Cook Road. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.
Marcus D. Jackson, 34, of the 400 block of South Main Street in Poynette, Wisconsin, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 25 and charged with driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs following a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver, improper lane usage, speeding more than 35 mph above the limit and unlawful use of cannabis by a driver.
Gregory A. Lance, 26, of the 2000 block of Clavey Road, Highland Park, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. on Sept. 26 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop near the intersection of Clavey and Barberry roads. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and disobeying a traffic signal or sign.
Roch L. Maboumba, 48, of the 2200 block of Loni Lane in Racine, Wisconsin, was arrested around 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 27 after officers showed up to the scene of a two-car crash at the intersection of Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road. They learned Maboumba had an active arrest warrant issued by North Riverside police in connection with a charge of driving with a suspended license and tacked on a fresh charge of driving with a suspended or revoked license, as well as citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
