'Welcome To Highland Park' Sign Vandalized; DUI Charge: Blotter

Highland Park Police Blotter: Jan. 29 - Feb. 4

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded than an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations by the state. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone spray-painted in black on the shingles of the archway for the bike path on Bloom Street, while more graffiti was found on back of the "Welcome to Highland Park" sign in silver paint on the morning of Jan. 29

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT
Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 30, someone stole an unlocked 2013 Honda CRV that had parked in a driveway in the 900 block of Windsor Road with the keys left inside.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
It was discovered on the evening of Jan. 30 that someone had vandalized a poster, windows and equipment inside of the Braeside Train Station at 10 St. Johns Avenue by writing graffiti with a green and black permanent marker.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone wrote graffiti on two poles along the bike path in the 200-300 block of Skokie Valley Road, it was reported at 12:37 a.m. on Jan. 31.

RETAIL THEFT
One or more unidentified people entered an unspecified business in the 1600 block of Deerfield Road, filled a shopping cart with 12 bottles of liquor and proceeded past the last point of sale without paying, it was reported at 12:28 p.m. on Jan. 31.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone smashed the driver’s side window of a 2018 Hyundai Tucson parked in the 400 block of Skokie Valley Road, it was reported on the morning of Feb. 1. Nothing reported missing from vehicle.

CAR BURGLARY ATTEMPTS
On the morning of Feb. 2, it was reported that three unlocked vehicles were entered and rummaged through in the 2800 and 2900 blocks of Twin Oaks Drive. Nothing was reported stolen from any of the vehicles.

ARRESTS

A 32-year-old Waukegan man was arrested at 9:44 p.m. on Feb. 1 and charged with driving while license suspended, no rear license plate light and uninsured motor vehicle after police pulled him over near Parkside Drive and Skokie Valley Road.

Mitchell Rogatz, 59, of the 300 block of Old Green Bay Road, Glencoe, was arrested at 2:26 a.m. on Feb. 3 and charged with driving under the influence and improper lane usage following a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Park Avenue West.
