$1.2M Project At Hinsdale Pool Planned

"This project will make a splash for our smallest swimmers," a village official said.

HINSDALE, IL – A $1.2 million project is planned for later this year at the Hinsdale Community Pool, 500 W. Hinsdale Ave.

Meanwhile, a neighbor is asking for the improvements to blend in with the neighborhood.

At Tuesday's Village Board meeting, Trustee Michelle Fisher said the children's pool hasn't been renovated in more than three decades.

"It truly has reached the end of its useful life," she said. "This project will make a splash for our smallest swimmers."

The work includes replacing the aging pool basin and deck, all within the current footprint, Fisher said.

It will also feature a spray tunnel and a spray fountain, among other things, she said.

Resident Tapan Desai, who lives on nearby Thurlow Street, said he and his neighbors are glad that the pool will be reinvigorated.

But he said the neighborhood fears that the proposed large blue umbrellas without adequate landscaping will hurt the neighborhood's residential character.

"It creates a more commercial feel that we would like to avoid if that's possible," Desai said. "We ask that meaningful landscaping be added to the design."

Fisher said landscaping has been discussed for the project. It would include evergreens, beach grasses and hardy perennials, she said.

That would provide shielding and a natural border to soften the look for the neighborhood, Fisher said.

Construction is expected to start in the fall and end in the spring, in time for swimming season.

Hinsdale trustees are set to vote on the project at a later meeting.

The pool was built in 1969 and renovated in 1992.
