10 Sickened At Hinsdale Golf Club: Official
Carbon monoxide from a malfunctioning furnace was believed to be the cause, the acting fire chief said.

CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Ten people were sickened earlier this month at Hinsdale Golf Club in Clarendon Hills, an official said Friday.
The golf club, 140 Chicago Ave., had a malfunctioning furnace, which appeared to be the source of carbon monoxide, acting Clarendon Hills Fire Chief Dave Godek said in an email to Patch. The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 9.
The majority of the people felt better when they were moved to fresh air and declined to be taken to the hospital, Godek said.

Two people, however, were taken to the hospital, Godek said. No information was available on their condition.
The golf club has no carbon monoxide detectors, and no citations were issued, Godek said.

"The Golf Club has temporary units installed while they figure out what type of system (that) they might find to meet the challenges of their floor layout," Godek said in the email.
A message for comment was left with the golf club.
Editor's note: A previous version of the story stated the gas was carbon dioxide. It should have said carbon monoxide.
