CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Clarendon Hills firefighters responded to the Hinsdale Golf Club on Saturday night after kitchen staff noted the smell of gas and quickly called 911, an official said.

This was the second incident since early December in which a fire crew answered such a call at the club.

In an email to Patch on Wednesday, acting Fire Chief Dave Godek said the fire crew spoke with staff and mitigated the problem by shutting down the gas. Nicor, the area's natural gas utility, arrived to investigate, he said.

Godek said he contacted the club's chief engineer, who reported the problem was an appliance malfunction that the club was correcting.

The incident did not affect anyone medically, Godek said. No citations have been issued in either incident.

On the night of Dec. 9, fire departments from Clarendon Hills and other towns responded to a carbon monoxide incident at the golf club, the village said.

Afterward, Godek told Patch that 10 people were sickened, with two taken to the hospital.

He attributed the problem to a malfunctioning furnace, which appeared to be the source of the carbon monoxide.

The club at the time, he said, had no carbon monoxide detectors.

The club's general manager, Mark Jablonksi, has not returned messages for comment.

At a Clarendon Hills Village Board meeting last month, a woman described the first incident, in which she said a "woman's head fell on the table."
