$329K Cost Overrun In Clarendon Hills: Village
The added costs are attributed to railroad flaggers and construction oversight, an official said.

CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Clarendon Hills trustees are being asked to approve another $329,000 in overruns for a downtown revitalization project.
The overruns are attributed to BNSF Railway flaggers, construction oversight and other work needed to complete the project, according to a village memo.
The flagging and construction oversight costs were contemplated in the project budget, Village Manager Kevin Barr said in the memo.

But the costs were variable and dependent on the number of days flaggers were needed, Barr said. As such, the costs were not included in the contract with John Burns Construction Co., he said.
The original contract with John Burns was $6.2 million. With the latest overruns, it is set to be $7.1 million.

The original estimate for flagging was between $272,000 and $320,000, with the total ending up at $265,349, Barr said.
The Village Board approved nearly $500,000 in cost overruns earlier.
On Monday, the board is set to vote on the $329,000 in change orders to the project.
Barr described the project as "essentially complete from a BNSF perspective."
