4 Injured In Hinsdale Deli Crash: Cops

They were taken to area hospitals because of serious injuries, police said.

HINSDALE, IL – Four people were sent to hospitals Monday afternoon after a car drove into a Hinsdale restaurant, police said.

About 2:30 p.m., a car was leaving the parking lot across the street when it crashed into Fontano's Subs, 9 S. Lincoln St., according to a Hinsdale police statement.

A 14-year-old boy who was walking outside Fontano's was critically injured when he was struck by the car, police said. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, next to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Three people in the restaurant were struck by the car or debris from the crash and were taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, police said. They were reported to be in serious condition.

Another customer was treated and released, police said.

Police said they interviewed the driver, who was not injured. A DuPage County major crash reconstruction team is investigating.

After the investigation, officers will determine which, if any, charges the driver will face, police said.

Fire personnel from Oak Brook, Pleasantview, Downers Grove, Westmont and La Grange assisted Hinsdale.
