HINSDALE, IL – The two bids for the proposed pavilion at Hinsdale's Burlington Park came in way over budget.
Officials hope to build it in time for July 4, the nation's 250th birthday. That is 74 days away.
The budget is $350,000, coming from private donations.
Two bids were opened April 10 – one for $405,000 from Roselle's LZ Design Build Group and the other for $586,000 from Lemont's King's Landscape Design, which teamed up with Hinsdale's J. Jordan Homes.
The highest bid was not priced under the state's mandated prevailing wage structure, which often represents union pay. So the bid was thrown out.
According to a memo, Hinsdale's staff is asking the Village Board to authorize it to negotiate with LZ and "other potential interested parties" on an updated proposal within the budget.
The board plans to vote on the recommendation at its meeting Tuesday.
The village has received three major pledged donations – $175,000 from Hinsdale Hospital, $100,000 from the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce and $25,000 from Hinsdale Bank and Trust. They total $300,000.
Designed by local architect Michael Abraham, the pavilion is expected to reflect the historic character of the next-door Memorial Building, which houses village offices and the public library.
