US News & World Report, a leading consumer news periodical, is renowned for its annual “Best” rankings that include hospitals, colleges and medical Schools, law firms, among others. However, the Top Doctors list is different because it does not rank the physicians. According to US News & World Report, this is because the list is intended to be a “data-rich directory of excellent doctors.”

Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., a research, information and publishing company established in 1992 to help consumers find independent, trusted information about quality healthcare, is renowned for its annual list books, particularly its “Top Doctors” series. US News & World Report uses data from Castle Connolly’s “Top Doctors” to build its list.
