HINSDALE, IL – Last year, the village was considering a dedicated dog park at Katherine Legge Memorial Park.

In the process, officials heard concerns about barking dogs early in the morning and late at night at the park, according to a village memo last week.

As a result, neighbors asked for fewer off-leash hours for dogs before dawn and after dark, Parks Superintendent Heather Bereckis said in the memo.

Dog owners, meanwhile, expressed interest in more daylight hours for off-leash access.

The memo said the police department indicated more daylight access would make enforcement easier.

The Village Board is taking up the issue of off-leash hours at its meeting Tuesday.

Under the village's proposal, off-leash hours from March through November would change to 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Now, the hours are 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Winter hours would be curtailed to eight hours a day, from 10 hours currently. Under the proposal, they would be 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Now, they are 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
