Birches Residents Revisit Their Youth at "Senior" Prom
On April 29, Birches Assisted Living residents revisited their high school days at The Birches' Senior Prom.

Although their high school days are long behind them, on April 29, Birches Assisted Living residents demonstrated that you are never too old to revisit one teenage tradition— the prom. From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Birches residents dined, danced, took pictures and awaited the announcement of the prom king and queen.
In true prom fashion, residents partook in a day of primping before the event which included complimentary comb-outs and nail polish changes from The Birches on-site salon, Salon PS. Birches staff also helped residents with finishing touches as they got decked out in their nicest attire.
The prom’s theme was “A Night Under the Stars,” and The Birches’ main dining room was transformed into a glittery, star-filled space that even included a balloon arch. The Birches also provided residents with corsages and boutonnieres handmade by Birches’ Maintenance Director Bob Bickert.

A silly photo area allowed residents to have fun capturing their memories of the evening, and musical entertainment by Edizon Dayao kept everyone dancing. Dayao, who sings and plays the keyboard, performed classic songs to transport residents back to their youth. Residents’ families were also invited to come dance and enjoy the festivities.
The Birches has held Senior Proms in years past, and Birches’ Director of Encore and Memory Services Jackie Raschke says the residents appreciate the special evening and the opportunity to revisit their younger years.

“This event is a way for the residents to let loose and have fun while reminiscing to music from their Senior Prom days,” said Raschke. “They always have a blast and enjoy the trip down memory lane.”
