HINSDALE, IL – A Downers Grove Township trustee who lives in Hinsdale says schools are hiding the issue of African American children attacking white children in schools.

In March, Kristina McCloy posted about the issue on a Facebook page she created four months earlier titled, "Concerned Parents of Hinsdale."

McCloy, who was appointed to the township board last fall, referred to a DuPage County high school where she said an assailant stomped on a victim. She said the victim was knocked unconscious.

"Black children on white children attacks are frequently trending on social media," McCloy said. "Schools, parents and towns have been downplaying and even hiding it."

She said some are scared to be at the forefront of the issue for fear of being labeled a racist.

"It isn't racist to call out what you are blatantly seeing," McCloy said. "Society should be outraged if any race/gender was perpetually being targeted for brutal attacks. This is child on child crime. Any adult complicit in letting this behavior persist, is aiding in child abuse!"

McCloy provided no specific data on the race of attackers and victims in school incidents. Schools typically keep information about specific cases under wraps because of student privacy.

Patch emailed McCloy through her Downers Grove Township account more than three weeks ago for an interview on the subject. She did not respond.

On Wednesday, McCloy answered when Patch called her. But the call cut off at some point after the reporter identified himself. When Patch called again, her phone went to voicemail. She did not respond to a later text message.

Downers Grove Township Supervisor Paul Coultrap also did not respond to a Patch inquiry last month.

The township includes all or parts of Hinsdale, Darien, Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Willowbrook and Downers Grove, among other towns.

Five percent of the township is African American.

The next township election is in April 2025. It is unclear whether McCloy will run.
