Boy Damages Vacant Hinsdale Institute Building, Arrested: Cops

Two incidents were reported recently at a religious group's building, police said.

HINSDALE, IL – More criminal activity is taking place at the Institute in Basic Life Principles property in Hinsdale, police said.

About 11:30 p.m. last Tuesday, police were called about a damaged window on a garage door at the institute's property at 707 W. Ogden Ave., authorities said.

Officers saw a car driving away. The driver, a 17-year-old Darien boy, was seen on surveillance video damaging the garage door, police said. He was charged with criminal property damage.

Between 1:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. Sunday, suspects were seen on surveillance video damaging an institute window and entering the building, police said.

Police have seen more problems on the institute site in recent months. It has been vacant for years.

A developer has plans for the property.

Truck burglary

  • A work truck parked on the street was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. last Tuesday in the 200 block of East Sixth Street. Power tools were stolen.

Damage at medical facility

  • A 30-year-old Monee man was arrested about 9 a.m. Monday on a criminal property damage charge. Police said he damaged a valet stand in the parking lot at Duly Health and Care, 908 N. Elm St.
